The Baroness and The Bear

Rhythm Travellers

The Individual Band Members

The Baroness and The Bear

The beginnings of the Rhythm Travellers.. The Baroness and the Bear - Julie and Bob, started performing together in 2014. Aiming to be a little different and incorporate a more complete view of blues music. they have been enthusiastically received and delighted to be invited back to play at many events including blues and music festivals, charity and corporate events, weddings and private parties.

Having established a common interest in music, people, community and generally having a good time, Julie and Bob got married in 2013!

They formed the band, Rhythm Travellers, and started performing in local venues, they were soon invited to travel further afield, playing Festivals in Swanage, London, Reading, Chelmsford and some beautiful venues for private functions.

The Baroness and The Bear’s music is contemporary and varied covering many styles from traditional ‘Classic and Old’ blues such as Lil Green and Willie Dixon, to Cakewalks and Gospel, including more modern unique styles such as Tom Waites, Madelaine Peyroux, some jazzy turns and their own original compositions

The Baroness and the Bear are the nucleus of the band, often preforming as a duo and also as Rhythm Travellers with the very talented Paul "Bad Boy" Borley drums/percussion and the talented Steve Smith on Guitar.

We are also privileged to be able to occasionally work with other wonderful musicians "Rhythm Travellers" such as the very talented John William - lead guitar/flamenco, Lee Le Cornu - Drums and percussion, Myke Clifford - Flute ans Saxaphone, Robert Hokum Dobra and Guitar,  Sarah O’Neil and Kevin Lowen - Violin and Wendy Benefer on Drums, Violin and Guitar!      All very lovely people and awesome musicians.

Julie and Bob have also been studying the History of the Blues with Exeter University, while performing songs in their own style many of the lyrics are steeped in history and reflect the original blues meanings that had no fixed genre when they were first documented.

The spirit of The Baroness and The Bear is to share good times with lovely people.

All in all – let’s have a good time! xx

Rhythm Travellers

The idea of "Rhythm Travellers" was born in 2016.. Julia and I regularly travel to far away places to play a gig for a good cause, a pint, a piece of cake or a Pizza.. We just love playing! We are not alone in enjoying doing this and regurlarly meet up with musicians who have become friends.. It is always very nice when your friends join you for a few numbers during a set, it deepens the experience for everybody.. It was during one of these setting when we identified that " We are all just Rhythm Travellers, sharing our love of music" ... and the name stuck..

Its not fair to expect the members of the regular band to Travel to Folkstone, or Derby, or London on every occasion. So we have built up a network of friends, musicians and all round nice people scattered around the country who we call on if required to play with us.. It works really well and we have a great time..
Fellow Rhythm Travellers include: Steve Smith, Lorraine Lucas, Joe Jones, Robert Hokum, Wendy Benefer, Anita Jardine, Paul Borley, Simon Temperton Myke Clifford, Lee Le Cornu.. Plus many other rogues and travellers..  But all fantastic musicians..
